The Fall River Chapter of the Prince Henry Society announces that applications for its scholarship program are now at the guidance offices of local high schools.

Applicants will be chosen based on the following criteria:  financial need, academic performance, Portuguese heritage, an essay elaborating on one’s Portuguese heritage, and extracurricular activities and/or community service.

It is important to note that eligibility is strictly determined by the high school attended.  Only those in their Senior Year at the following schools can apply to the Fall River Chapter:  Durfee High School, Diman Regional Voke Tech, Bishop Connolly, Somerset-Berkley, Case, Tiverton, Westport and Seekonk.

There are two other Prince Henry chapters, one in New Bedford, and one in Taunton, each having jurisdiction over their own geographical areas.  Applying to the wrong chapter could potentially cost a student a scholarship.

Deadline for the receipt of applications with all supporting documentation is April 10. The members of the Prince Henry Scholarship of Fall River Committee hope to inform all applicants by the middle of May.

Scholarship applications may be obtained and returned to the school guidance counselors no later than the deadline. Packets may also be mailed to Prince Henry Society, Greater Fall River Chapter, P.O. Box 3563, Fall River, MA 02722.
